The Blackberry 8520 is quite a charmer, it looks simple enough and but has a feel of sophistication to it. It's probably because of its full QWERTY keypads protruding on the front panel. This keypad however gives the best typing experience out of all kinds of mobile phone designs. This eliminates the frustration of typing messages on touch screen which doesn't give any feeling at all, if you're that kind of person. It's also very user friendly as the buttons that you would normally need are already laid out for you in one of the keys. The keys by the way are raised which is excellent!
The Blackberry 8520 has an optical trackball. It works almost identically like the old trackball and has a tactile feedback.
The Blackberry 8520 has a 109 x 60 x 13.9 mm size is pretty lightweight in 106 grams. The screen is quite big, it is a 2.6 Inch TFT 65k Colour Screen in 320 x 240 pixels. It displays clear images, watching videos or just viewing pictures is a pleasure.
Camera
Although it's nothing ground breaking, the Blackberry 8520 has good camera camera features. It's got a nice 2 Megapixel Camera with a 5 x Digital Zoom. While it's not that high end when you compare it with today's latest releases, it has great picture output quality and takes pictures like a pro. Although you need to get used to it's settings and learn to know lighting conditions to fully take advantage of its capabilities. Fortunately it has a Flash but its not that powerful.
Communication
Calling and messaging capabilities of the Blackberry 8520 is excellent as usaul. It has a Quad Band frequency allowing good signals with-in network coverage but isn't so good in between countries. These are GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 frequencies.
Unfortunately the Blackberry 8520 doesn't have a Video Calling feature, not that heart breaking though. Messaging is also good in this phone, it has the basic SMS and MMS support. It also has the predictive text functionality that speed texters love.
In terms of multimedia, the Blackberry is a good enough. Not as good as multimedia phones of course but just enough to satisfy you music loving ear. It's pretty loud but a little tinny, but still it's good. It has Media Keys for easy access and... that's just it.
